Adding contact drop down list to opportunity

I need to add the contact drop down list to the opportunity form in order to identify a primary additional dealer contact associated with the opportunity.

I don't see contact as one of the fields I can add to the form.

Do I need to add a relationship between the contact and opportunity first?

What am I missing?

Thanks,
John

I think that the field is the Customer. It is grouping contact, account, and lead.

I you want to add an additionnal field for the Dealer, a new relationship should be created. After the relationship is added, you can add the new field (lookup) on the form.

    Don't quite follow your suggestion.

Are you saying I need to create a new entity call Dealer then create a relationship of it to the opportunity entity?

I'd rather not do that as the dealers are already entered in under account and contacts, I just want to be able to put them on the opportunity.

There is already a Relationship between Opportunity and (Contact, Account), called Potential Customer.

So, if you want to add a new Lookup from Opportunity to Account (your Dealer), you should define a new relationship between those entities.

The result of the new relationship will be a new Lookup Attribute (new_dealer, or something like that), that should be available in the form.

Is it a little more understandable?

Yes it's better.  However I don't want to specify an account I want to specify a contact.  In order to give credit to the appropriate person at the dealer.

    Same technique.

The only difference is that the Contact Entity must be selected as the Primary Entity when creating the N:1 Relationship in the Opportunity customization screen.

Is there any downside to adding this relationship, anything I should be aware of?

    Thanks

Also is there a way that I can have a look-up of contacts driven by a query so I could have it list only contacts that are of a specific relationship type?

    Thanks,

    John

Nothing exceptionnal... maybe a little warning because if you do not specify a different name for the relation, the entity name will be used, and that can be a little confusing.

You are talking about Filtered lookup... it is not possible out-of-the-box, but it's actually possible using a third party from Stunnware, checkout the products at http://www.stunnware.com/
