Hi Experts, Do you know how to use Smart List to search multiple accounts transactions at once together? I've tried the way [XXXX] as below but it doesn't work. Can anyone advise?
Thanks

What's your search criteria?
Hi Thanks for replying my enquiry.
My aim is to run multiple accounts transaction once together by using SmartList, say run accounts 1111, 1121, 1131 and 1141 together instead of one account at each time. Do you know how to do it? Thanks
Jeff
This doesn't work for all situations but if you are only searching for accounts, you could change the setting on type of search to "1 or more" meaning "if any of the search criteria are true". The default is all criteria have to be true. The lower right hand corner of the search screen is the drop down list to make this change.
Hi Jeffrey,
You could try using SmartList wildcards
% = Zero or more characters
_ = Exactly one character
[charlist] or [!charlist] = Any single or multiple characters in a list
[^charlist] = Any single or multiple characters NOT in a list
Kind regards,
Leslie
Thanks go out to uruser2 for pointing out an error in this post that has now been corrected.
Les
using the vendors * smartlist I am trying
vendor name begins with
[ab] gets me all the vendor names that start with a and b
[^ab] gets me all the vendor names that do not start with a and b
[!ab] again gets me all the vendor names that start with a and b
based on the above - and other readings ! is supposed to exclude not include. Am I missing something / has this changed?
thanks!
Jeffrey,
If you want to print the trial balance report for a disparate list of accounts, you can do that with the Financial Navigation List. Go to Financial and then on the left hand side of your screen select the Accounts list. A listing of your chart of accounts will display. Check the boxes of the accounts you are interested in, go to Reports and print the trial balance. This isn't a search, but it's a very good way to get a trial balance that doesn't include all the reports.
With regard to your SmartList question, you may be better served to use an excel refreshable report because you would then be able to use Excel's robust filtering.
As far as the SmartList wildcard characters are concerned, you are exactly right, the [!charlist] seems to do exactly what the [charlist] does. I'll try using it with a couple of different filters and see if that changes anything.

You are exactly right. It seems that [!charlist] works just like [charlist]. I changed the post so as to not put out bad information.
Thanks for pointing it out
Not a problem at all Leslie; I saw it on numerous posts, including ones from Microsoft.
I've been using and supporting GP for over 20 years, I had smart list since version 5. I've never seen the _ search before. That one is very cool.
