Is it possible to trigger a workflow before saving a record?

I want to trigger a workflow to send an email before saving a record.

For example, I am entering all the details into the record and also there is a field called 'Owner' which initially will be current user who is entering the details. But before saving the record, while I am entering all the details I change the Owner field also and I want to trigger the workflow here which can send email to the changed new Owner. So after changing the Owner I want to save the record. And in the assignment section I want to see the email activity. I've written the workflow to trigger when record is created and when record is assigned. 

It is triggering after saving the record I mean whenever Owner field is updated but not before saving the record. Can someone please answer this?

    No it is not working Deepesh.

    Its not letting me to change the Start When to Before 'Record fields change'. After activating the workflow it is reverting back to 'After'. Also I am seeing this error when I try to trigger the workflow: "

    Cannot open Sql Encryption Symmetric Key because Symmetric Key password does not exist in Config DB."

    For the error you are getting refer here: dynamicsofdynamicscrm.wordpress.com/.../crm-2013-create-email-error-cannot-open-sql-encryption-symmetric-key-because-symmetric-key-password-does-not-exist-in-config-db

    It lets me save and activate. I verified it in CRM Online environment.

    I don't think it is working. I followed your article but as soon as I activate the workflow the 'Start When' - 'Record Fields Change' checkbox getting unchecked. And also the Before is changing to 'After'. I don't know why! Anybody experienced this before?

    Hello Roxana,

    To chip in on the error you posted, Cannot open Sql Encryption Symmetric Key because Symmetric Key password does not exist in Config DB.", this hints to database encryption issues. Are you able to send emails, etc. and able to access the encrypted password fields in CRM?

    Hi Magor,

    I am working in a test environment, so I am not bothered about sending emails. But I want to see if I can trigger the workflow before creating a record like 'Start When' will be 'Record Assigned'. Even if an email is not sent atleast it should create an activity in 'Assignment' section right? Please correct me if I am wrong.
