For one of our on-premise customers, we need to upgrade Business Central from version 18.3 to version 22.2.
On reading the compatibility matrix in the official documentation below, we understand that the following operations need to be carried out: Major upgrade from 18.3 to 21.0 Major upgrade from 21.0 to 22.0 Minor upgrade from 22.0 to 22.2
From my understanding I don't believe you can go directly from a base version (21.0) to the latest version (22.2). The path would usually be from base version 21 to base version 22 and then to the latest monthly release 22.2.
