Auto Save Deleting Field

(0) ShareShare

Since the Upgrade to Dynamics 2013 (Online version) I have been getting issues where if I am editing a field during the Auto Save it highlights the text (So if I am over writing the field and not paying attention it will over write the field and I lose what was written before the save.)

Is there any way to solve this? I know that Auto Save isn't supposed to save the field being edited, but I assume that is what is happening. I don't want to turn of Autosave as it is a good feature but obviously may have to if it keeps on.

Thanks

Adam

I have never seen this issue.  I don't think there is anything you can do without turning off autosave, you are just going to have to keep on your toes whilst editing data.

one suggestion would be to turn on auditing so you will at least know what was written in the field before you edited it.

I am seeing this issue also and have been for a while. According to the customization guide, "The field that someone is currently editing isn’t included in an auto-save". I thought this meant that the field someone was currently editing would not be affected by the autosave feature but I guess I'm misunderstanding it.

Maybe disabling autosave is not such a bad idea since...according to the customization guide..."Whether you have auto-save enabled or not, whenever you navigate away from a record or close a separate window displaying a record, the record will be saved". I hope this is accurate as this is the route I think I'll take. One automatic save when I'm finished editing a record is all I really need...if it works as I understand it.

    Hello Adam,

Even when you've disabled auto save - it still fires when closing a windowed record or navigating off a record. There isn't any setting to change this functionality.

Refer the link below for more info.

    Thank You

So Autosave will save automatically every 30 seconds and you are just going to have to watch out for accidentally overwriting a field.

it is possible to turn off the autosave using Javascript for one entity

    blogs.msdn.com/.../how-to-manage-auto-save-for-individual-forms-of-entity.aspx

This means you can keep the autosave for all the other entities but turn it off for this one entity.

I have the same issue like Adam.

During Auto-Save CRM highlights the field you are currently typing in with the consequence that you overwrite your inputs.

The only idea I have is to increase the auto-save frequency. Is there any downside of changing the autosave from 30 seconds to 10 minutes? For us it would be enough if the system saves only when you navigate away from a form.

    Thanks Christian

Hi, found the same problem, but seems to be an issue with Chrome only. I tried in IE and if auto-save kicks-in as you are typing it does not highlight the field resulting in deleting your old value.

If you want to temporarily stop autosave on the record check below post. what it does is, it adds bookmark in the browser when you click on the bookmark while you are on the form it stops autosave completely but still you can save by clicking on the save button in the left corner of the form.

I too am getting exactly the same issue. This must be bug and means that the auto save function is useless until it can be fixed. The only "solution" as indicated by the current replies amounts to "turn off auto save".

Try the following: Open an entity (any one). Tab to any text field that is followed by another text field. Enter some text, tab (to next field), and enter some data (say "Hello Wor"). Now do nothing and wait. Auto save kicks in, saves, and the "half entered text of the second field" is highlighted. if you continue with what you were typing (i.e. the "ld" of "Hello World"), you will find it overwrites the first half of what you typed. In the real world it can occur without warning at any time while you are typing.

Do you know if this site monitored by Microsoft?

    Hi Sam,

just as an update from my side. I've changed the auto save intervall to 30 minutes without having any negative effect. Even after an update the autosave trigger was still set to 30 minutes.

    The system will save automatically:

    - everytime you navigate to another record

    - everytime you close a window

    - every 30 minutes if you stay within a form

To change the intervall I've found instructions here:

    http://dynamicscrmherald.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/modifying-auto-save-feature-interval-trigger-time-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm-2013/

    Hope this helps,

    Christian

We are having the same issue and it seems to happen every two minutes.
