Hello all,

we will decommission and sell one of your locations and i was wondering if there is any best practice in the steps we need to ensure we do this correctly and ultimately block any transactions postings , picks and movements occurring in the future. We have an advanced warehouse set up.

many thanks.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi CinderKonan,

Unfortunately there is no method to do it so. However someone manage to create a work around for this.

How to Block a Location in Microsoft Dynamics

Hi, we don't have Block feature in Locations.

If you are not using this warehouse, you can remove all Inventory Posting Setup and Warehouse Employees. This prevents users from posting.

But if you want to add the Block feature like in Item, you need to customize it.

    Hope this helps as well.

    Thanks.

Thanks both for your answers - I suppose there is no way to block the raising of Sales and Purchase Orders against this location either without customisation?

One option could be to apply a security filter on the location table so that the users no longer can see the location in question.

    Then you avoid customization.

You can always delete a location that you don't use as long as it is empty.

A location can be deleted even if there are item ledger entries posted with that location code.

Your ILE and value entries will still keep the location code so you can always report on those entries. But the location will no longer existdeleted-location-2.png

In my opinion, customisation is the way to go.

If you ever have to follow some type of audit trail, deleted data becomes a nightmare.  We've added a "Blocked" field to the location, and then filtered all blocked locations from the Location drop down.

If the location ever needs to be activated again, the Blocked field can be changed on the Location card.
