Can we migrate Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Licenses from one tenant to another tenant?

Hi everyone!

So we have this requirement of migrating the whole tenant to a different tenant. The source tenant is basically licensed with Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan licenses and the source tenant also contains multiple environment of Dynamics 365 CE apps. I wanted to know if it's possible to migrate the Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan licenses from source to destination as our destination tenant does not have the licenses and it is mandatory to have that license for the tenant to tenant migration to be completed.

I'd appreciate if someone can clear if this is achievable or not and if it's not possible, do we really have to buy those license plan again the destination environment?

For Reference - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/move-environment-tenant

Thanks!

There is really not a migration of licenses option since these are different tenants. During the migration process, there is a user verification process before the migration to make sure that the destination users are licensed. During this stage you should not need the source tenant users licenses. Saying this, you would still need to purchase the destination tenant user licenses. I know there have been cases where a customer has kept the source licenses, purchased the destination licenses, finished the migration and reached out to billing to get the source licenses cancelled.  Since the tenant to tenant migration requires a case to be created, please make sure to discuss this with the engineer assigned.

    Hi,

I actually got a confirmation for this from Microsoft support stating that there is no supported option available for such type of license migration from one tenant to another. So, basically need to purchase license for the destination tenant.

    Anyways, thanks for responding back.
