Division-Based Isolation

In Business Central 365, we want to use one company and the same item codes, customers, vendors, banks, and cash accounts, but logically isolate a separate division (via Division Dimension code) used for audit or compliance entries.
Requirement:
Same items, customers, vendors, banks
Separate division code for audit/compliance entries
Management reports should include only operational division codes
Audit/compliance division entries should NOT affect:
Item valuation (FIFO / Average Cost)
COGS
Inventory valuation of operational data
Real customer and vendor ageing
Question:
Is there any standard BC configuration or supported approach where a division/dimension alone can isolate valuation and ageing when using the same items, customers, and vendors?
If this is not possible, what is the recommended best practice to handle such audit or compliance entries while keeping operational and management data unaffected?
Looking for practical, real-world guidance.

    Hello,

No. Dimensions can’t isolate costing, valuation, or ageing. They’re reporting-only.
Best practice: use a separate company for audit/compliance.
If staying in one company → post G/L-only audit entries (no items, customers, vendors).

You can try responsibility centers first.
    Work with responsibility centers

    Thanks.

Thanks for the inputs and suggestions.
After reviewing the behavior of Business Central costing, my approach is to separate responsibilities as follows:
    * Inventory valuation will be controlled by Location**, since location is part of the BC costing engine (Item + Location + Variant).
    * I will maintain **different locations for warehouse / stock purposes**, so that valuation remains separate and does not mix for the same item.
    * Vendor and customer will remain the same**, and accounting will be differentiated using **Division (dimension)**.
    * Any management vs audit adjustments will be done using the appropriate **combination of Division and Location**.
    * Division will be used for financial reporting, ageing, and adjustments, while Location will ensure correct inventory valuation.
    With this design:
    * Same item codes can be retained
    * Same vendor and customer codes can be retained
    * Inventory valuation remains correct and separate
    * Financial reporting and adjustments remain flexible and auditable
This approach aligns with how Business Central is designed and avoids valuation issues when using dimensions or responsibility centers alone.
    Hope this clarifies the approach.
