Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Viewing currently logged in users from outside GP 10.0

Posted on by 40

As the message title implies, I am looking for a way in which someone not yet logged in to Dynamics GP 10.0 (but with access to a Microsoft XP SP3 PC on the network, full admin rights, etc.) to view which users are currently logged in, so as to be able to see if someone is logged in twice.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer a solution.

- Daniel F.

EDIT: I should specify that the PC used to do this would have Dynamics GP 10.0 already set up on it, connected to the framework, etc.

The ACTIVITY table tracks the user and company.

It is unwise to let users log into multiple companies as it will use up your concurrent licenses much faster than expected.

The following VBA example can be used to prevent multiple logins if you wish:

     Thanks!  That is very helpful.

Is there also a way for a general user (not the network admin) to view all of the companies that they are currently logged in to from within Dynamics GP 10.0? (ideally without granting them any abnormal level of security rights)

You could log into the SQL Server using Windows Authentication and look at the ACTIVITY table.

Using SQL Authentication will not work (except for 'sa') as the passwords will be encrypted. See this post for more on password encryption:
