Business Central — Extension Automatically Removed from UAT Environment

Hi Community,
I’m experiencing an issue in Business Central UAT environment where a custom extension automatically gets removed after some time, even though it was successfully published and installed earlier.
✅ Details:
  • Environment: Business Central UAT (Cloud)
  • Deployment method: Published via Extension Management
  • The extension installs and works fine initially.
  • After a few hours or by the next day, it disappears automatically from the UAT environment.

❓Question:
Has anyone else faced this issue where extensions automatically uninstall from the UAT environment?
What could be the possible cause — system refresh, environment sync, or a deployment policy?
Any guidance or explanation would be highly appreciated. 🙏

Extensions should not get automatically uninstalled  . Custom Extensions in UAT environment get uninstalled when Business central application Environment has updated to higher version

Check any recent updates are set for UAT in admin center. For example 26.0 to 26.1 or 26.2 or 26.4

    Hi,

In case of node migration or BC Update extensions often get removed. Regardless if they are posted from visual studio or not.

    🙏 Namaste

Thank you so much for the clarification — that makes sense. 👍

I’ll check in the Admin Center if the UAT environment was recently updated to a higher version (for example, from 26.0 to 26.1 or 26.2). I understand now that such updates can cause custom extensions to get uninstalled automatically.

Could you please also suggest what would be the best solution or preventive approach to avoid this issue in the future — for example, if the environment gets updated to a higher version, how can we ensure that our package (extension) remains installed and doesn’t get removed?

Thanks again for your valuable guidance! 🙏

We are facing the same issue. Has the same thing happened on production?
How can we resolve this? @Pallavi Phade

Extensions cannot be unpublished automatically from Production  .
Version upgrades will be failed if extensions are not compatible to higher version
If user uninstall one extension dependant Extensions gets automatically uninstalled . Check the extensions were linked to each other .

Extensions always get uninstalled whenever there is version upgrade in Microsoft UAT ( Sandbox ) . We have always been observing the same . We need to install everytime whenver there is version upgrade in Microsoft Sandbox.

There is no permanent fix for Sandbox , You will also observe publishng issues  if Microsoft works for patches during releases friday- Nights or Satrudays.

It seems that MS will remove tenant extensions for Sandboxes before attempting to do an upgrade.  So if the upgrade is failing, it'll remove the extensions, try and upgrade, fail, send someone an email and then try again the next day.

Set an upgrade window on the testing environment (I assume it's a Sandbox) to push updates out for a month + and see if that fixes it.  You change that in the BC Admin Center.

    Hi,

Extensions in UAT can be removed automatically if:
    > The environment is refreshed from Production (custom extensions not in Production are deleted).
    > The extension was published manually via Extension Management and not deployed as a per-tenant extension through the Admin Center.
    > Scheduled updates or maintenance remove non-persistent extensions.
    > To prevent this, deploy the extension as a per-tenant extension via the Business Central Admin Center instead of manual publishing.

    Thanks
    Rishabh
