Command Bar Menu Disappearing

(0) ShareShare

Hi,

I am experiencing an error across various parts of CRM where the Command Bar is disappearing.

This happens on one of my forms following a user invoked Save and also the Command Bar for my incident homepage disappears when using the browser back button to return to it.

A hard refresh will display them again.

I have made customisations to the Command Ribbon via Ribbon Workbench, but nothing out of the ordinary, just two additional buttons and associated commands.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

Alex

    Hi Alex,

The first thing I would do would be to eliminate any of your Ribbon customisations from the mix. Make a backup of your customisations and then delete all the custom buttons/commands you have to see if the problem still exists.

Next thing to do is to remove any custom Javascript you have.

If you still get the problem with no customisations, then I would contact Microsoft support and raise a ticket.

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

    Hi guys,

So after all sorts of troubleshooting and some calls with Microsoft I have now discovered that removing any text from the label attribute "ToolTipDesciptionText" actually resolves this issue.  This has resolved it across several different organisations where I was making ribbon customizations.  Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the solution, Alex! The mystery of the missing Command Bar after an explicit save event by the user was really puzzling me, but clearing the ToolTipDesciptionText fixed the issue.

Just to help others who are encountering the same problem after adding tooltips for their Command Bars, the script error that I was originally using to search for clues was: Refused to set unsafe header "Content-Length".

I just started having the same issue -- totally NEW, been using CRM for 4 months.  I am not sure what you mean by "ToolTipDescriptionText" as I do not believe I have any, nor have I recently made ribbon customizations.  Additionally, this is only a problem in the Opportunities Entity.  Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

    Hi Tracy,

That is strange, that it has just started happening to you seemingly out of the blue and following no ribbon customisations.  Assuming you're using CRM Online, I wonder whether this might be a bug introduced to your system following the "Leo" Spring Release update which has been rolled out this week? It's probably a case to raise with Microsoft support.

Just to clarify "ToolTipDescriptionText" in case it does help at all.  When you perform customisations on the ribbon you have the opportunity to enter the label that will appear next to the button, also other attributes like the one which caused the problem here, in CRM 2011 this popped up a description when you hovered over the button.  We found after lots of troubleshooting that removing these labels from our customised buttons resolved the issue.  If you did want to pursue this line of enquiry you could download Scott's ribbon workbench here www.develop1.net/.../Ribbon-Workbench-for-Dynamics-CRM-2011.aspx you would then create a new solution containing just the Opportunity Entity then load up that solution in Ribbon Workbench and go through clearing all those ToolTipDescriptionText attributes for each button.   Might be worth a go if you're getting nowhere. Hope you get it sorted.

Help - so I have not made any ToolTipDescriptionText changes from the standard that are placed there by Microsoft for certain fields on my Opportunities Page.  However, I too have recently lost the Command Line for Opportunities.  I recently installed Ribbon Workbench, but have never used it.  This also seemed to coincide with the Maintenance Update pushed out (CRM 2013 Online) about two weeks ago.  Any suggestion on what I should do - could Microsoft's own descriptions be causing my problem?  This just started I have been working since early March in the system.

Hi Tracy. My best advice is to raise it as a service request with Microsoft.  You can do this through the O365 admin centre, clicking on Support on the left then clicking on Service Requests.

They will most likely get back to you the same day and are probably already aware of this issue.

    Thanks. Alex.

Any updates on this?  Running into the same issue, seemed to start after SP1 and Spring '14 updates applied.  Constantly have to refresh to get command menu back.

I did raise a support ticket with Microsoft and after almost three weeks of investigations and testing, it appears that my problem was caused by a looping iFrame URL reference that was added to the Opportunity Entity.  It had nothing to so with ribbon customizations but rather an inadvertently customization -0 that was not even being used, it was just being "tried" to solve another data view problem from within the Opportunity Entity.

Note, refreshing never solved my problem - so if you are just refreshing and the command bar is then displaying, sounds like you have a very different issue.  I can only suggest looking at any iFrames or special views you may have added to the entity AND submit a support request formally.  I received GREAT service from the Rep, it's just that it took us a long time to find this "little bug" as we have many unique customizations on our Entity - nothing fancy just a lot of them.  Good luck with researching...
