GP2018r2: Item description changes in INV, but prints old description on PO.

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

When we revise an item description in INV, it appears fine on subsequent inquiries. Yet when we use this same item number later to issue a PO, the revised description appears on the input page, but the original unrevised item description is printed on the PO. Where should I begin to resolve this issue?

Feels like there may be a vendor item descriptions modification in place here that you are unaware of.

A bit of detective work required, you need to back track from the PO report fields being used and via the database to see what is happening to the records. Check for SQL jobs running that may be overriding behaviour or installed 3rd party plugins.

No, it doesn't seem to make sense.  This is a fresh P.O. and the situation can be replicated across a number of revised item numbers...

Are you copying from a previous PO? - Might be using the same descriptions?

Doesn't make sense that they are pulling the wrong descriptions, I would confirm the description fields you updated.

Did you also change the description on the Item/Vendor card?

I understand the situation of changing a description on an item after the P.O. was created. That makes sense.

In this situation, I just created a new P.O. for an item that I changed the description months ago, and the description on the P.O. is the old, pre-revision description.

It's like the P.O. module has a different version of the item table which is not being updated.

I have run the check links utility which is clean.

You would need to cancel the item and re-add the item so it gets the new description. You could also update the PO Line items directly in SQL : victoriayudin.com/.../pop-tables

    Hello,

Is PO was already created and later you have changed Item Description in Item Maintenance? If yes then it won't change it while printing PO.  Plus just verify in PO printing it takes Vendor Item Description not Item Description.

Please verify and let us know. Will happy to assist.

    Thanks much
