Template Reports

ReportReport
Posted on by

We are just setup sales documents to use Word Templates and have run into a problem.   The Template report emails just fine, and prints fine from within the open transactions list by selecting and then print document.  When trying to print a sales document from the order entry screen it just prints the Report Writer report.  I had seen were someone else had this issue but don't now if it every got solved.

Any ideas?

Thanks

My first thought is that you are emailing & printing the SOP Blank History Invoice, but the SOP Blank Invoice does not have a template created/assigned yet.

If you go into Reports >> Template Maintenance, then lookup & select each of the two forms (Blank History & just "blank"), are there templates assigned for each?

If there are, perhaps they are not set up as defaults, or are not assigned to the companies and/or customers you need?

Check these couple of things & let me know, then we can dig deeper, as needed.

For example, we are using the Blank Quote Form (not modified).  The template is selected and assigned as default for the company and also all customers.  The Template is also default, except for adding logo in template maintenance.  It prints fine by selecting a quote from the open sales transaction list , by selecting check box and print documents.  Also e-mails just fine.  The problem is if within the sales transaction entry window, you go to print it prints out the Report Writer report.

I checked the history report and nothing is setup for history reports yet.

    Thanks for the help

In the template maintenance window, is the template assigned as the default? It should be, if there is only one template, but worth checking.

In the sales transaction entry window, when the report destination window opens, are you able to select "template" even if "standard" appears by default?

In the Alternate/Modified Forms & Reports window, are you set to use the original invoice, or a modified invoice? (Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >> System >> Alternate/Modified Forms & Reports)

In Template Maintenance window Report is set as default.

In the sales transaction entry window.  Template is the only available option.

In The setup for Alternate reports the default Dynamics GP is selected.  We don't have a modified report

Hmm, so in the report destination window, "template" is the only option? I've never seen that before. And then, even though "template" is the only option, the "standard" form is what actually prints?

I think this is a case for Word Template Debugging! I've not actually used this process before, but here is a great link with detailed instructions. Give this a try and let me know if it is helpful. If you have further questions, post back & we'll keep working on the problem.

Or, actually, you may need a DexSQL log, since you're getting the Report Writer version of the report. To turn on that logging, follow these instructions:

I ran the first debugging and it appears the reports are printed to the TEMP Folder just fine.

I have implemented the dex logging during the print and do see some indication of an error but have no clue what it means

    Guessing this is the problem.
