UI/UX Issue of Service Lines when clicking fields

We are currently facing a UI issue in Business Central related to the Service Lines page. When users click on certain fields within the Service Lines, the UI occasionally jumps back to the leftmost column, almost as if the page is refreshing.

This behavior occurs intermittently and disrupts data entry, as users must scroll back repeatedly to the column they were working on. It appears to happen randomly and despite multiple attempts, we haven't been able to reproduce the issue consistently.

We've investigated potential causes but haven't identified a consistent trigger. The issue sometimes occurs simply by clicking on a field, even when no validation or page update is executed. Because of this, we suspect that no explicit Page.Update or UI refresh is being triggered, but something in the background may be causing the focus to reset.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior, or is there a known fix or workaround?

Any guidance on potential causes or troubleshooting areas (e.g., triggers, extensions, or UI behavior) would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting steps already performed:

  • Restarted the PC
  • Cleared browser cache
  • Tried accessing Business Central in a different browser
  • Used incognito/private mode
  • Ensured the browser is up to date

Thank you!

    Hello,

That issue is a known intermittent UI refresh bug in the Service Lines page. It’s usually caused by hidden field updates or background refreshes, not by user actions. Check for custom triggers or extensions that modify data, and make sure your Business Central is updated to the latest cumulative version. Microsoft has fixed similar UI jump problems in recent releases.

    Hi,

Yep, that scroll-to-left thing happens sometimes in BC, especially in editable lists like Service Lines. It’s not always because of a direct page update, often it’s something behind the scenes that quietly changes the layout or resets focus. That can include:

    • Fields showing or hiding based on conditions
    • Page extensions that adjust layout on the fly
    • Add-ins or JavaScript fields doing their thing
    • AL triggers like OnValidate that update other fields

Here’s what you can do to track it down:

    1. Look for silent layout changes

    • Check if any fields use Visible, Enabled, or Editable tied to variables
    • Even without calling CurrPage.UPDATE(), changing those variables can shift the layout
    • Also check if OnValidate or OnAfterGetCurrRecord updates other fields

    2. Use Page Inspector and telemetry

    • Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to inspect the page and spot dynamic fields
    • If telemetry is set up, look at PageView, PageInteraction, and ALMethodInvocation logs around the time the jump happens

    3. Simplify the layout if possible

    • Try to reduce how many fields change based on conditions
    • Avoid stacking too many editable fields in one row
    • Move less-used fields to a FactBox or another tab

    4. Test across browsers and devices

    • Try tablet layout, touch mode, different zoom levels, and accessibility settings
    • Some scroll behavior depends on browser and screen size

    5. If it keeps happening, raise a support ticket

    • If you can reproduce it in a clean sandbox, send it to Microsoft
    • Include screen recordings, browser logs, and telemetry traces, they help a lot

    Hi
Do you have any custom or third-party extensions installed for this functionality?

This is strange, can't say I've seen this before. As Gerardo asked, do you have any customizations on this page?

It appears that CurrPage.UPDATE() or CurrPage.SaveRecord() has been added to the code. I suggest having the developers investigate this carefully.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

There is no standard setting to prevent this; it requires identifying the trigger or waiting for a fix in future updates.
If no customizations exist, report to Microsoft as intermittent UI refresh issues have been observed in recent versions.
