Solution Questions

Hi All,

Could you please tell me if I could export a solution from D365 CRM and import it into an on-prem version of Dynamics CRM? If it can be done, is there a minimum on-prem version that i need to stick to?

I know solutions don't hold all the changes made. I'd like to understand exactly what changes are held in CRM and what changes need to be configured again in the target application. Any link to read more about this would be great!

Thanks!

J

    Thanks for this!

Can i take a backup of an instance of D365 CRM (cloud) into the same on-prem version? So like what we do with copying an instance into sandbox can i do it to an on-prem environment?

    RE: Solution Questions

Default solutions will be holding all the changes you made. You can export the same by going to Settings - Customizations - Customize the system. But this is managed by default.

So create a new solution to include all the components you customized so far from online, export as unmanaged & import in on-premise instance.

    Read about solutions: docs.microsoft.com/.../import-update-export-solutions

Solutions will move only customizations. If you have any configuration data to move, I would recommend to use Configuration migration tool.

    RE: Solution Questions

    Hi Jay83,

Solutions exported from an earlier version of Dynamics 365 can be imported into later versions as shown in the following chart.

    Version-compatibility.png

Generally, solutions can be imported into organizations less than two versions higher than the version the solution was exported from. Service pack releases will provide the option to either export a solution with compatibility for that service pack, or just with capabilities included in the base version.

Read this article for more information on solutions, including this version compatibility chart.
