I am trying to move dynamics crm on-premise to dynamics crm online. I will be doing this first on trial online version of dynamics 365.

You need to do this in 2 steps.
First you need to migrate the customization. If you are on CRM 2013 or higher, you can simply create a solution with all your components and then deploy eit to the online version. If not 2013 or less, you need to either manually create the same customization on online or you have to upgrades your on premise.
Second is the data migration, if the customization are same on you source & target then you can either use Excel data import or configuration migration tool to migrate the data. If your data volume is huge then you need to use either some advance tools like Scribe or kingsway soft SSIS page or you have to create your own custom application to migrate the data.
Please note that if you are purchasing 250+ online licenses than Microsoft can help you with the migration of customization & data under the FastTrack program. www.microsoft.com/.../dynamics-365
Also, You need to convert any of your sql based reports to fetch based in order to make it work for online.
