Hi,

We are planing to decommission our Dynamics 365 online v 9.0 application as users needs to be migrated to other application. We want to keep its database copy of online instance, so that we can refer it in case  of any query in future. A query can be getting attachment of notes or checking old emails or  details about old records. Can i get advise on what approach should be fine?

Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

You can try to reach out to MS Support and ask for a copy of the CRM DB. In the past they used to provide these. Not sure if this is still the case today.

Another option worth considering would be this docs.microsoft.com/.../replicate-data-microsoft-azure-sql-database

    Regards,

I would suggest creating a backup copy of the database to an Azure SQL database. That way it will accessible to you at anytime if you need to run queries against it.

If you're decommissioning the Online instance, then I'd suggest contacting MS Support and asking for a copy of the database. They should be able to give you this. You could then restore this into a SQL Server instance. However, I don't think the current Online databases are compatible with CRM OnPremise, so you won't be able to connect an OnPremise instance to the database, so you'll only be able to query the database via SQL tools.

If you were keeping the Online instance, then I'd suggest the Data Export Service to replicate data to a SQL azure instance
