Code Actions - Runtime 16 - VS-Code

ReportReport
Posted on by 14
Since I upgraded the AL Language Extension to Runtime 16, I can no longer save my files without clicking Skip at the bottom of the message (Getting code actions from AL Language Extension for Microsoft 365 Business Central (configure).) In addition, my code actions no longer work (yellow light bulb).
I have already tried all new versions of the AL Language Extension, including the pre-releases. However, when I switch back to a 15 update (15.2.1630495), everything works again. This means that I only have this problem with 16 versions of the VS Code Extension and above.
All settings in the extension are at their default values.
I have not installed any other VS Code extensions except for Code Actions in version 1.0.37.
I have this problem in every workspace (not just in a single one).

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open Extension Manager
  2. Go to the "AL Language extension for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central"-Extension
  3. Update to a higher Version than 15.2.1630495
  4. Try to use code Actions, or to Change a file and Save it

Expected behavior:
I expect that the file can still be saved in the new version and that the code actions work as in the 15 versions.

Actual behavior:
Currently, I cannot save any files in the project without pressing Skip, and Code Actions are not available.

  • AL Language: 17.0.1998613
  • Visual Studio Code: 1.107.1
  • Business Central: 27.0
  • List of Visual Studio Code extensions that you have installed:
  • Operating System: Windows

Several people in the team have this problem, and I already created an issue on GitHub in the Extenion repo back in October, but unfortunately I haven't heard anything back yet.

I installed AL Language Extension v17.0.1998613 (last updated about a week ago) and tested it — everything works fine on my machine.

If the yellow light‑bulb still doesn’t show up, just click on the error and press:

    CTR+;

Also, enable Auto Save in VS Code so changes are saved automatically without needing to click Skip:

Go to File → Auto Save and turn it on.

The server (BC runtime 16.0) requires an AL Language that supports runtime 16, Check VS code version and AL Extension it supports .
Re-Install VS Code and AL Extension from Marketplace.

Hello everyone! Thank you for your quick responses <3

I checked the versions and reinstalled VS Code.
    Current Versions:
    VS-Code: 1.107.1
    Al Language Extension: 17.0.1998613

I have also enabled automatic saving. However, the same problem persists: no code actions (lightbulb) and every time I save, I have to press Skip because the message does not disappear and the file is not saved until I do so.

CTR+ only takes me to the zoom

    Kind regards!
    Tobi

    Hello,

This usually means the AL language server isn’t starting/responding in Runtime 16+, so VS Code waits for code actions and shows Skip (and the lightbulb disappears). Most common causes are another extension forcing code actions on save (especially the separate Code Actions extension), global editor.codeActionsOnSave settings, or AV/EDR blocking the AL language server binaries. Disable other code-action extensions, remove codeActionsOnSave for AL, restart the AL language server, and if it affects multiple users, have IT whitelist the AL extension folder. Pinning to 15.x works because it uses an older server binary.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling VS Code and AL Language.
I encountered a similar problem a long time ago, and this solved it.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Perform a clean reinstallation of Visual Studio Code and the AL Language extension, followed by reconnecting the Business Central environment
