Dex.ini Reverting on NoPrintDiaglogs=FALSE

Greetings,

We have a terminal server dedicated to our Accounts Receivable department in order to meet their performance needs (local dictionaries, collection letters, etc.).  They’ve requested to have the print dialog box prompt them to select a printer.  I’m quite familiar with the setting for this in the dex.ini file (NoPrintDiaglogs=FALSE).   However, each time I change it to FALSE, it reverts back to TRUE shortly thereafter.

The dex.ini is located in the GP program folder on the C:\ and not specific per user (I think there is some TS configuration that allows this, but I am not familiar).   I don’t have any users that would take the time to figure out how to make the change, nor would want to.  Does anyone have an idea why my dex.ini print settings keep reverting?

One thing I just did is change the machine name the dex.ini as it was set to the wrong name.  I wonder if that may have something to do with it?  Perhaps I need to check the “Do not update any Dex.ini settings automatically” box in Support Debugger?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

    Jim,

What happens if you completely remove the NoPrintDiaglogs=TRUE line from the file?

    Kirk,

I'll give that a try.  Thanks!

    Jim,

You mentioned the Support Debugging Tool (SDT), are you in fact managing the Dex.ini entries with the SDT? Check the Dex.ini Configuration Window in the SDT and see if there is a setting for this particular switch.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Leslie,

    Thanks for responding!

There does not seem to be a setting for this in SDT.  I surely thought there would be. However, I found on the Dex.ini Configuration option in SDT, there is a check box called "Do not update any Dex.ini settings automatically."  I marked that and have not gotten any complaints this week.  Maybe that will be it.

I'm taking Dave's classes at the GPUG Summit so I'm sure I get this all figured out.

    See you there!
