Error deploying cloud hosted environment

Hi,
I am trying to test the commerce module. I have setup a Commerce project in LCS, created the Azure AD connector, granted permissions. Everything appears to be OK between LCS and my Azure subscription, the Dynamics deployment service has contributor role in the subscription. When I try to create a cloud hosted environment for the project it fails right at the end with a meaningless error. I have tried many variations of different user accounts, different virtual machine sizes etc. I think it must bean an ARM error but I don't know how to troubleshoot. (I do not have DevOps configured but I doubt that is an issue).
Error text below, I could not find anything Googling...

Any ideas? Thanks

    Hi,

This is odd indeed. Can you see if it has deployed anything to Azure in the configured subscription?
If so, then you can see any Azure deployment issues by looking at the deployments in the Azure resource group.

(Moved to SCM forum, as this is D365 F&O. Hope you don't mind)

    Thanks for replying,

Looks like a resource group has been created and a storage account is the only resource in the group. The deployments section of the resource group is empty.

Strange. Could it be a problem with the project? I have not created a package as I thought that was optional.

    Thanks

Packages are not a prerequisite to deploy environments, so it's not that.
Commerce should not be either... Although having DevOps is one of the prerequisite to deploy a tier-2 sandbox

I have created a completely new Commerce project in my play tenant, without any configuration other than an Azure subscription in North Europe, and it initiates the deployment. It's the latest PU with a demo topology, and no changed configuration.

I assume this is further that you can go?

My next step is to verify that you can deploy something in the region using the Azure portal. Otherwise my best bet is to open a support case with Microsoft.

Alternatively you can skip LCS entirely and deploy a trial environment from Power Platform Admin Center: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/commerce/dev-itpro/commerce-trial
