Mapping fields for Contact Import

Hi,

I am trying to import contacts against accounts using a custom account field that I have created. Each account within the CRM has a unique number, from another system, that is within the custom account field mentioned above.

I want to look at importing contact, First name, Last name and email, using the custom account field that I have created.

Could you let me know if this is possible? I am unable to us the Zip/Postal code field as we have account with the same post code.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hello Brian,

best way to associate Accounts using workflow. You may follow below mentioned step;-

    1. Import All contacts

    2. Create workflow to update Custom field in Contact with filter condition to pick specific account based on unique number.

    3. Run workflow as on demand and then update all contacts which don't having Account filled.

    Hi Parbhjot,

Thank you for helping. Would this mean that the field I have created against the account entity needs to be made against the contact entity?

Once the work flow has been run, would selecting the account then show associated contacts, which had been matched using the workflow and unique number?

    Hi Brian,

You need to map you unique value attribute during import setup, please see the following picture.

Doing so, crm will lookup to your unique field, ignoring default primary attribute.

Please let me know if you solve.

    Hi Francesco,

I am struggling to find where I can use my unique reference as the field to look up against.

I am going to: Settings > Data Management > Imports > Import Data > 'Selecting the file' > 'Selecting the Default Data Map'.

Should I be creating a new data map?

    Thank you

    Brian

    Hi Brian,

proceeds as follows to be sure crm request a mapping:

    1) save your file to csv (utf-8) format

    2) import csv file

    3) map all fields following your needs

    Hello Brian,

If Zip/Postal code is common field in both entities i.e Account and Contact and you need to associate Account custom field on contact then you may need to write Custom workflow activity.

Firstly you have to retrieve particular account based on Zip/PostalCode then need to update the Account Custom field value in Contact entity.

You have to run this workflow as On demand respectively on Contact entity and then from advance find you have to select contact records to associate account.
