Microsoft Report Builder / BC Check Layouts

I’m working on customizing a check layout in Microsoft Report Builder for use with Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS. The check portion—including the signature line—is placed in the report footer. My goal is to move the signature and check line closer to the bottom edge of the check, but I’m running into a persistent issue:

No matter how much I increase the “Top” property or reduce the bottom page margin (set to zero), the signature always prints with about an inch of blank space below it. Sometimes, when I try to move the signature further down, it either stays in place or even moves up. I’ve checked for extra rectangles or padding and reduced the footer height as much as possible, but the problem persists.

Questions:

  1. What would prevent a field from moving to the bottom edge of the check when they are in the footer? I've set the margin to zero. Are there any known limitations or workarounds for footer positioning in Report Builder, especially for check printing?

  2.
  3. Can anyone recommend high-quality training resources (videos, documentation, courses) specifically focused on Microsoft Report Builder for check layouts and financial document formatting in Business Central SaaS?

  4.

Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

When I had to start developing using Report Builder, I found it very tedious with a lot of trial and error. But sooner or later I was able to achieve the results I was looking for.

When it comes to a template with text toward the physical or logical boundaries, you probably need to look in a few places. Besides page margin settings there are report settings, group settings, table settings, textbox settings, and even physical limitations when it comes to the printer's printable area.

Sorry if this isn't really an answer, but trying to point out a few places in Report Builder where the layout can be tweaked. :)

    Hello,

This is expected SSRS behavior, not a Business Central issue. Report footers can’t print beyond the printer’s non-printable bottom margin, even if margins are set to zero, so check signatures often stop ~0.5–1 inch from the edge and may move unpredictably. The usual workaround is to place the signature in the report Body (not the Footer), adjust page height so the footer starts lower, or check printer driver hard-margin settings. There’s no BC-specific training for this—general SSRS/Report Builder layout and printing resources are the best reference.

This may vary depending on the printer.
First, you need to confirm the paper size, and then make sure there is no content in the blank areas.
If all else fails, you can try creating a Word layout.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
