Background Processes is MIA, but only for some Entities!

Background Processes is "Missing In Action", but only for some entities!

I've recently moved to CRM2016.

On the old CRM we had quite a lot of Workflows. Some where reactive and some where Timer or Timeout based. Most of these workflows were monitoring the "Sales Order" entity, and we would regularly call up Sales Order records and check the "Background Processes" to see what stage the workflow had reached.

However, in CRM2016 the "Background Processes" option is missing from the menu. I've been into the form designer and even poked around the SQL Tables and nothing seems out of place when compared to another entity like Account!

So in summary, Entities: Account, Contact, Contracts are showing "Background Processes", but entities Quotes and Sales Orders are not!

What do I have to do to reinstate this functionality?

Many thanks

Steve

    Hi Everyone

I've now reached a point where workflows are behaving strangely for Sales Orders, but I'm still finding it difficult to identify what went wrong given the "Background Processes" is missing from  the record context menu. Does anybody know how to re-instate this?

    Many thanks

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Did you use the "navigation" context on the form to add the "processes" back on to it?

Are the processes available through the sitemap?

    Hi,

open the customization, go to your entity , open the form, click navigation and drags and drop

    Hi Everyone.

Thanks for the responses, unfortunately it's already there. It was the first thing I checked. There must be something else that's preventing it from showing!

Whatever it is it only affects Sales Order and not Account or Contact which are working fine.

    Regards

    Steve

Can you try disabling all the scripts that run on load of the Sales Order form. Some script might be toggling the visibility of "Background Process" .

    Hi,

I would try to remove it , save and publish , and add it back then save and publish.

    Ok, this is very strange.

    1351.Image1.jpg

When I go into the form designer and activate the Navigation section, I'm able to remove "Background Processes".

When I close the form, publish and re-open the "Background Processes" is no longer available on the right-hand list of available fields. After doing this several times I was only able to get back to the image above by restoring the database from last nights backup.

    So just to summaries:

    • Background processes isn't available on the record context menu making it difficult (but not impossible) to view workflow progress.
    • If I remove the Background Processes in the form designers, I cannot put it back after saving the form as Its no longer available of the available links list.

Anybody have any idea what is going on here?

    Hi,

This could be due to a missing or corrupt relationship between Sales Order entity & System Job entity.

Can you check the following two things in your system:

    • Sales Order Entity customization - 1:N relationship with System job entity

    • Advanced Find -> System Jobs -> Does field "Regarding" allow you to look for "Orders"
