Field Service module

Posted on by 450

How do I install or get field service to be visible or work with a GP 2016R2 installation. I have looked in the features to install it is not there, I have looked in Registration and don't see a checkbox for it and have checked it off in the navigation pane options and don't see it appear. I am using a partner key for our demo box so I would think I have it. Thanks for any advice.

I would definitely check with Microsoft to see if you have the right registration keys.

Unfortunately I can't find a way to get to Field Service initially to get to the setup of any of it. Not sure how to even navigate to the module. When I go to Fabrikam I can see what you are talking about though.

Not necessarily. As you can tell, I am going down the list systematically :-)

The next step is to make sure the Service SQL Objects are created for the company in question. You will want to log into the company in question, then click on Field Service > Setup > Service Setup. Click on the Service button on the Service Setup window, then click on the SQL Objects button on the Service Setup -Service window. Mark all 3 options, then click OK. Needless to say, you also need to make sure the module is setup by filling out all the other options in the setup window.

On my demo/test server none of these even exist in the Registration screen, I went to check on another client of ours installation and I do see those and they are checked and when I enable Field server in that navigation pane I can see and use it. So does that mean it is a problem with the keys?

Assuming your registration keys are correct, go to Administration > Setup > System > Registration and verify that both Service Call Management, Returns Management, Preventative Maintenance, Depot Maintenance, and Contract Administration are all enabled. These are the different Field Service modules.

Thanks yes I do see that dictionary and not sure if you saw my update to this question but I was able to enable Field service in Fabrikam simply by checking off the box in navigation but in a regular company that does seem to work. Is there any company specific thing to do?

Is it company specific, because in Fabrikam logged in as SA or poweruser I can enable the module simply by checking it off in the navigation pane, but in a regular company I cannot even with SA.

    RE: Field Service module

    Nancy,

The Field Service dictionary is installed by default with Microsoft Dynamics GP. There are no additional installation procedures for it. The first thing then is to verify that the dictionary exists in your environment:

    1. Open File Explorer

    2. Go to your Microsoft Dynamics GP installation folder, typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2016

    3. Locate the file SRVCADV.DIC. If this file is present, it means the Field Services dictionary is loaded. If it's not present, you may need to run an installation repair.

Launch Dynamics GP. In the Navigation bar (to the left) you should see Field Service as part of the list of navigation options, along with Home, Financial, Sales, Purchasing, Administration, Inventory, HR & Payroll, etc.
