Mail Merge templates not showing in the Lookup Template list

Hi,

I have created some new Mail Merge Templates and turned on Mail Merge in the General Entity Options tab for a number of new Entities within our CRM system. For some reason in a couple of these entities I am unable to see any templates to select in the template list when trying to create a new Mail Merge document from them during testing.

The Mail Merge Button is showing on the ribbon as I would expect in the entity form, but when the Lookup Record form opens after selecting the button there are no templates to select, not even the default system templates. I can see my new templates and the system templates from other entities where Mail Merge has been turned on so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the view.

I would be really grateful if someone could let me know how to solve this problem or tell me why it is happening so I can figure out a work around as this has had me stumped for the last week.

    When creating email templates do you not have to specify which entities the template is for

    or you can set the email template to be global and available for many entities

    this blog shows a quick way to create an email template

    Thanks for the reply Ben, but unfortunately the problem isn't related to the associated entity. Even when I try to create a New template from the option in the template lookup list and associate it to the entity there it still doesn't show up in the view for me to select and there isn't a Global option in MS Dynamics CRM 2011

    Have you tried to pressing the advanced find button when you are in the view and checking the filter options, it maybe filtered out by some of the criteria.

    Also try adjust the advanced find and removing some of the criteria to see if then appears in the view, this may help you work out why the templates are not appearing.

    is there an option to publish the email templates to make them global or something like that?

    Sorry Ben, I don't think I was clear enough in my problem explanation. The problem I have is with a MS Word Mail Merge template not an email merge template :-)

    I think you may've put me on the right track though Ben. Our system is using a Connections Entity for relationship management rather than setting up 1:N, N:N entity relationships. I think this has confused the Mail Merge Template View as I can see the templates I need from the main entity, but not from the subordinate entities as you would when normal relationships are used. I think to get around this problem I'm going to need to create a version of the Mail Merge Template for each of the subordinate entities as well as the main entity.
