Management Reporter URL Link Error

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 766

Hello-

When I Generate a report, the library auto populates, which is exactly what we want.  I then "Copy Link", and paste it into a URL for a web version.  Thinking we could share the report with non-MR users via email link.  Also, some MR users like to view the report via the URL.

I am getting the below Error Message.  I have confirmed the tree security, and I am an Administrator.  Any tip, as to why this might be happening?

    Nicole,

It could be something as clear-cut as the fact that anyone that wants to look at an MR report must be authorized to be a Viewer in MR Security. "Non-MR users" then become MR users.

Then, too, those users must be authorized to view reports in the specific folders in the MR Library into which your reports are being saved.

As Steve says, you need to create any user who will be viewing reports as a Report Viewer in the Security of Management Reporter.

Additionally, when the report is generated it will be output to a location in the Report Library an the user, or any of the groups they belong to, must have permissions to view this report.

It makes sense that each user needs to be setup. Currently, we export everything, because our IT does not recommend adding as many users as we really need.

But, I am an Administrator and I am still getting this error.  Another user that is setup on the server and MR, Library and GP, is also getting this error when copying the URL link from the library.

    Nicole,

Another possibility that we've seen: is your browser supported by Management Reporter? Microsoft's requirements:

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 9 or Internet Explorer 10
    • Mozilla Firefox® 14.01 or newer
    • Google Chrome® (version 22.0.1229.79 or newer)
    • Apple Safari® 5.1 when on Apple iOS only or newer

Are you running Management Reporter on a Remote Desktop Server? What version of the Windows Server operating system are you using? We run our current GP RDS on Windows Server 2008... and it's quite particular about the version of Internet Explorer that it likes.

For example, even the Remote Desktop Web Access menu is touchy. If you have IE9, everything's copacetic. If you have IE10 then only the text of the menu icons is displayed. If you have IE11 then you get bupkis.

    Hi Steve-

We have Windows Server 2008, and I was using IE 10.  Today, I had our IT install Firefox, and I tried that.

Still getting the same error. It says to look at the Tree and the library security, which seems odd.  I have access to everything. Not sure what it could be :(

What build of MR are you on?  Have you tried generating the report directly to the Web Viewer? (toggle can be found by clicking on Tools >> Options >> Use Management Reporter Viewer as default viewer).

Since it is complaining about tree security and/or report library permissions.  There's a setting on the report for Disable unit security (Settings tab, click on the Other button and then go to Additional Options tab).  Make sure that is checked.

That did the trick, Thank you!

One thing to keep in mind, is if you are using tree security this would completely bypass that which is probably not a good thing.  If you are using tree security, then it sounds like your windows user would need to be added to the tree units.
