Hi,

the regarding field can contain related record from a wide selection ( Account, contacts, lead, opportunity etc. ) What I want to do is to fill in a lookup field (account) within a record but I need to get the account name from the regarding related lookup. So lets say I have a record that has the regarding "pointing" to a lead record. I want to get the account name from that lead record. Or if the regarding field is pointing to an opportunity record, I want to get the account name from the "potential customer" field within the opportunity. The problematic is the variety the regarding field can be related to.

Is there an easy way to achieve this?

Thank you,

    Hello,

There is no easy way. You will have to create different if/then blocks inside your workflow to make it work properly where inside if block you check regardingid field for type of entity and in then block you execute prepopulation based on related entity.

Anrii's answer is correct but before you go down this path please consider this - Every time you add a custom entity to the system you would have to remember to add this to the workflow. It may be worthwhile having a plug-in developed that does the work for you.

Of course, the plug-in would have to be able to work out which field to collect from new entities as well, but it could be configured to pick out 'account' fields in new entities by default. The developer could alternatively set up a mapping table ('Entity' to 'default field name') that could be appended or modified as required.

This may all sound like a lot of work but it depends on how often you will be modifying your CRM.
