OwnerID to default to blank? Current user creating record needs to assign to another owner

Hi,

Would someone have any suggestions how to approach below problem:

Users: Sales Assistants are required to fill out trade data in form "Trading Data"

Once Sales assistants open the form the OwnerID(system required field) automatically gets populated with their name and they have to then open it and select which sales person is responsible for it.

Is there a way that the User field is blank when they create new "Trading Data" record? Point being they should not be owners of these records.

Any advice is much appreciated!

I'm assuming you have created a 'User Owned' entity and not an 'Organization Owned' entity. In this case, the owner field is used to determine the visibility of the records. So, you will have to consider the Business Unit Structure that you have configured along with the Security Roles for that user.

Once you have determined how this impacts the visibility of the records, you can hide the owner field on the form and create a Lookup (User) relationship on the form and name it 'Responsible User'. That way, the value can be blank until its been populated. By default, the OOB Owner field in CRM populates the current logged in user.

Depending on how it impacts record visibility, you can also evaluate the sharing option (with a specific user and team) to ensure the 'Responsible User' has visibility of the record.

On your point of there should not be owners of those records, you can evaluate creating this entity as 'Organization Owned'. So, BU structure and security roles play a vital role in your design.
