Implementing EPR and PFAS Reporting in Dynamics AX 2012 and D365 F&O – Best Practices & Options

Hello Community,

We’re currently exploring options to support Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and PFAS tracking/reporting for recyclable and regulated materials in both Dynamics AX 2012 and Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations environments.

 

Our clients have regulatory requirements under programs like RPRA (Canada) and evolving US environmental rules that mandate tracking of packaging, plastic types, and PFAS-related data for reporting and compliance.

 

We’d appreciate your insights on how to address this in each platform.

 

  • Are there standard data entities or templates available for environmental reporting?


  • Any recommendations for ISV solutions or integrations with regulatory platforms (e.g., RPRA, Lorax EPI, Enviropack).

    There are no features in Dynamics 365 F&O or AX2012 for your requirements. I'm not aware of any ISV solutions. Have you checked if Microsoft Sustainability Manager supports your requirements?

    There is an EHS Management component built by Disruptive Advantage used for compliance reporting and handles regulatory requirements etc.

    There are no standard data entities, features or templates available in standard D365 Finance and operations.

    Thank you for your response.

    I did some research on EPR and waste management and also saw some generic articles. But yes, do not see any good ISV, or third party application which supports this for Dynamics AX 2012 specifically.
     
    However, I have gone through the Microsoft Sustainability Manager and found the below points.

    1. Centralized Data Collection:

      You can ingest data about materials, packaging, shipments, and waste through Power Query, APIs, or custom connectors.


    2.  

      Custom Data Models & Calculations:

      You can build calculation models for EPR-specific metrics like:

       

      •  

        Packaging weights per material type


      •  

        Collection and recycling rates


      •  

        Producer responsibility fee 


    3.  

      Custom Reporting:

      Using Power BI dashboards or downloadable formats, you can create EPR-compliant reports (for example, by country, material, or SKU).


    4. Regulatory Extensions:

      You can extend the solution to track country-specific EPR frameworks, like:

       

      • EU Packaging Waste Directive


      •  

        India’s EPR Plastic Rules


      •  

        WEEE and Battery Directives

         

        What It Does Not Do Natively:

        No pre-built templates or regulatory filing formats for EPR.

                No direct integration with country-specific EPR portals or regulators.   

      No out-of-the-box material classification libraries or SKU-level decomposition logic.
