What is going to happen with Legacy workflows/processes after October the 20th?

For testing I did the definitive activation towards the Unified Interface with our Sandbox environment. I noticed that the Processes section in the advanced menu is now gone. You can still reach your processes via the solutions explorer (legacy). Also if I browse to the processes via the new make.powerapps management suite, the processes will redirect to the legacy environment.

So can I conclude that all legacy workflows/processes just stop after 20th of October this year? If this is the case, than we have some very big problems. Yes I know Power Automate is the new way to go, but many of the functionalities in the legacy workflows are just simply not possible to recreate in Power Automate (yet?). I cannot imagine that other companies will not have the same problems with this, especially when using customized workflows from custom solutions.

Does anyone know what the strategy will be with these kind of legacy parts of D365? Will they continue to work, will they just stop, will they be automatically transformed to PA flows...etc.?

I really like Power Automate, but to be fair, it does not yet come close to the original current processes/workflow functionalities.

Regards,

I have the same question (0)

They won't just stop in October, I don't even think Workflows have been officially deprecated yet but when they do it could be years before they disappear. There aren't many things that Power Automate can't do that Workflows can with the exception of Synchronous workflows.

You can use Background Workflow for this year either MS leverages the Power Automate and its limits.

Possibile deprecation the next year after MS alert to all D365 users providing some docs about "how to convert workflows to PA".  After deprecation, MS maintain the workflow technologies for a range during you can convert "with complete peace of mind" (I hope it...depends on the originality of Microsoft  cloud policies )

    So my suggestions are:

    • Create Async Workflows only for standard steps (Email / Call Simple Service ), reduce Plugin Activity Steps (Custom Actions): effort about coding maintenance and costs
    • Consider yet Sync  Workflows for your customization. Power Automate doesn't run in synchronous way.
    • Keep up to date on Power Platform news and features
    • Learn Power Automate today and invest for your Know-How and the future of your organizations
    • Consider the migration from Workflow to Power Automate a future employment opportunity with your Customers and Managers ;)

I think that workflow improvements won't make it anymore, while Power Automate is in continuous improvements!

Thank you for your answer David, it makes sense what you say, our goal is to move as much as possible to PA (as I said, I'm a big fan of PA).

I'm very curious about what Microsoft is going to do in modernizing these async workflows, because many of them are system-made so these are ootb and necessary for correct functioning of the system as a whole.
