Can't share Views anymore??

Posted on by 12,159

Dynamics 365 (On-Prem) w/ 8.2.2 update applied:

Just tried creating some Views with different entities and sharing them with a test user who has a single Security Role assigned.

When I refresh the Test User's page, I don't see the View available in the View dropdown list under 'My Views'.

I then attempt to send a link via email to the User. When I click on the link I get an Access Denied message on ObjectTypeCode 4230 which is UserQuery (aka Saved Views). Are we no longer able to share Personal Views with Users? What is going on?? I have checked that the user's security role has Read access on the Saved View entity. However the default AccessLevel is at the User Level and this cannot be changed.

Well it seems to be working now after un-sharing and re-sharing the View. Perhaps it may have had something to do with sharing it to a newly created Team (I've shared with Teams successfully in the past) as opposed to Users individually.

Just to answer some of your questions in case this pops up again for anybody.

    1. Yes, only experienced since updating to 8.2.2

    2. Yes, multiple users have shared with multiple users in the past.

    3. No Security Role changes.

    4. I didn't try an OOB Security Role but I did try copying the role as well as creating a new one from scratch with the same result.

In this case, both Users had the same (custom) Security Role assigned which had all permissions to the Saved View entity (User-level, which is all that is allowable)

Yes, both Users had Read to the entity displayed in the View, which in this case is a Custom entity. Views have been created and shared from this entity before without issue.

Does the user have read rights on the entity that the View is displaying?

    A few questions:

    1. Did this issue just start with the update?

    2. Has this user been able to open saved views previously? Can other users open saved views?

    3. Any other Security Role Changes?

    4. Have you tried granting an out of the box security role (ex. Salesperson) and seeing if this resolves the issue?

For the Saved View access in Security - user access should be fine but they may need user access to all permissions (not just read).
