How to run massive updates on Formulas in D365?

Hello dear experts

we use formulas in our environment and quite often we have the requirement to run a massive update on formulas and change  both formula versions and lines .

Most of the time the update is on existing formula lines.

Now , in the scenario I have to apply a formula line change if I follow the  current configuration from the client I would need to

1 -  unapprove the formula version and formula

2 -  apply the formula line change ( it can be insert, delete ,update)

3 -  approve the formula and activate again

This would need to be repeated for all formulas that needs updating.

Our AX partner told us we can use data entities for this but I tried and got stuck immediately.

I created the following export project with the 2 data entities below for the export

I will need the formula version record to unactivate and unapprove the formula and then update the formula line with the change

but when I tried to run the import  I got the error "Function not Supported"

D365 got stuck when trying to set the formula from active yes to active no.

Is there anything I have been doing wrong?

    Hi Alessandro,

Checked the code, the Formula headers and versions does not support updating.

And the Formula version entity will create a new record if the active field is changed.

You need to create a new entity with the formula version table.

Thank you very much for double checking this.

Quite shocking this cannot be done using standard data entities.

Updating already imported formulas is tricky, if not impossible

    What you could do:

    1. export the 2 entities:
      1. Formula headers and versions
        1. or: formula headers
        2. formula versions
      2. Formula lines
    2. create 3 empty import files, with only the column headers:
      1. formula lines
      2. formula versions
      3. formula headers
    3. import those 3 files in that order, one by one, with the truncate option enabled
    4. modify the exported formula files in Excel
    5. import those modified files
