    Hello Peter,

No—XMLports cannot import Excel (.xlsx) files, in NAV 2016 or Business Central; they only support XML (and CSV-style text). If you need Excel input, the practical options are to convert the file to CSV and import it, or use RapidStart / Configuration Packages, which natively work with Excel. Importing true .xlsx files is only possible via custom development (Excel Buffer + .NET/Open XML), which is heavier and usually not recommended unless Excel format is mandatory.

    Hi,

Not Excel but you can use CSV file.
CSV fiel is just variable text with Delimiter as Comma, so you can set it up as such in Xmlport.

    Dhiren.

    Hi,

No, you cannot import an Excel (.xlsx) file directly using an XMLport in BC. XMLports only parse XML‑formatted data, not Excel. You can design an XMLport to import/export XML, but there’s no built‑in way for an XMLport to read an Excel .xlsx file. XMLports are specifically for XML structured content.

    What you can do instead:
    • Use a Configuration Package: You can export a configuration package to Excel, fill the data, and re‑import using the Configuration Packages import process in BC, this uses the Excel sheet format and loads the data into BC tables.
    • Convert Excel to XML or CSV: Save your Excel as CSV or generate a corresponding XML format, and then import via XMLport or the standard CSV import routine. XMLports handle CSV or XML formats if you design them that way.
    • Use Power Query / RapidStart / Data Migration Tools: For larger Excel imports, use RapidStart Services or the in‑app import wizard that supports Excel.

So: XMLport cannot read .xlsx directly. Convert the file or use the BC configuration package/excel import features instead.
