Hi,

I can't use my serial key of CRM Workgroup on my older database of CRM 4.0 professional.

I made a restore of the older database 4.0 in a new SQL Server and the try install a new CRM application but without success.

The license code is not compatible with the installed version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM or the Product Key is not compatible with the installed Version Of Microsoft Dynamics CRM are errors that i have receive when inserting the license key of workgroup (trial or action pack serial).

I install successfully only using the Trials Edition, but never with the trial workgroup serial neither my new license of Action Pack workgroup.

Is there any way i can use the older data of CRM 4.0 professional? By upgrading the database and usung the same company? Or in the worst option create a new installation and get the data (Opportunities, Queues, Accounts, Contacts, Propositions, Invoices, Emails attached...)

The productions Servers doesn't not exist anymore, just have the backups of database.

Thanks,

Ricardo Vaz

Have you tried importing the backup into the the workgroup edition using the deployment manager? You will need to disable the default organisation first since you are only allowed one enabled org at a time.

    Hi Scoot,

Sorry but i can't answer because i have some troubles enter the site to login.

You try to told me to install my CRM Workgroup with a fresh install using a new database and a new organization? If i do this can i have the older databases restored (MSCRM_CONFIG and EADCRM_MSCRM) since i will use the same database server?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Don't restore the MSCRM_CONFIG - just import the EADCRM_MSCRM using the import organization in the deployment manager - you must first deactive the current org first.

OK , but i can't deactivate the organization since i don' have the older servers on CRM 4.0 working, just have the backups of database (.bak)

So i guess first step is install the CRM 2015 workgroup with a new organization. Then, can i restore the EADCRM_MSCRM database?

If you are upgrading from CRM 4 you must go via CRM2011-2013-2015

Yes - sorry, first install CRM2011, deactivate the default org that's created during install - then restore the EADCRM_MSCRM database and then use the import organization in deployment manager.

Then you can do an inplace upgrade to CRM2013 then to 2015.

    Hi Scott,

Thanks, i guess you recommendation is right and will work. Unfortunately i have to cancel the import because it hangs our database server when deleting data from the EADCRM_MSCRM database.

And i guess the trick here is using the workgroup trial insteead of the professional trial, these step i could do on my first atemp because i use the restored database directly.

If i can logon on this site again tomorrow i will report. there is something odd in my account because i sign in and them force me to sign creating a new user...

The trick is not close the browser.

    Thanks Scoot

Well, importing the company isn't very easy, because the database changing are giving errors:

Cannot find the object 'fn_GetFormatStrings', because it does not exist or you do not have permission.

I already look the permissions and try to put the functions on the database manually, but perhaps i need to insert new columns in some tables of the older database.

You shouldn't need to do this. Does the function actually exist already? Are you sure you have dbo permissions on the database?

Yes, i already give permissions to all AD users of CRM on dbo (on the old database and the new). I can't put yet these function on the older database because give error on some tables i can't find.
