Can Fiscal Periods be defined in CRM?

I would like to report off fiscal period but I see that a fiscal year can be defined but not seeing anything on periods. We are on a 544 calendar starting on October. I am thinking of creating a custom entity to hold the calendar periods and use that for reporting.

Anyone have any insight before I go this route?
