How to correct "Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities will not edit." Error message?

Posted on by 1,415

I went to GP Utility (Start>Programs>Microsoft Dynamics>GP>GP Utilities) as I need to create a new company. After logging in as administrator, I got a message:

"An error occured while using the BCP utility-data was not correctly copied to server. Please verify your CDBC setting and that BCP has been correctly installed. Microsoft Dynamics GP Utilities will not edit."

As such, I can't create a new company now.

Could you please advise on step by step instructions how to correct this; so that I could create a new company in GP Untilities?

    Barbara,

You should not need to copy the shortcut.  You should be able to go to Start>Programs>Microsoft Dynamics>GP>GP Utilities (as you are doing) and right click on it (instead of the regular left click).  At that point you will be presented with a menu of options and towards the top one of them should be 'Run as administrator'.  Depending on your user's permissions, you may need a password to get past this point.

I should back up a step here and ask what Operating System you're on.  Based on your original error I was thinking one of the newer ones, like Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7...but if that is not the case, can you please post back what it is?

    Barbara,

Try right clicking on the shortcut for GP Utilities and choosing 'Run as administrator'.
