Relating incoming emails to entities

Hi,

Is there a way to set the regarding field on received emails to an entity? They come is as readonly (received) so I am unable to set the field.

If we receive a query via email that isn't a response to an email that was sent out we want to associate it to the related quote/application/product so that we can see all messages from within the related entity.

Thanks

Alex

    Hi Alex,

To dynamically associate an email to an entity in MS CRM, you can do it with the help of a background plugin that runs on "Create" event of Email and does the following: -

    1. Check if the email is a response email or a query ( here you need to decide the criterion for the check),

    2. Associate this email record with the related quote/application/product (here you need to decide the logic about how to identify the entity record to which this email should get associated).

You can register and run this plugin asynchronously so that it doesn't impact CRM performance.

    Best Regards,

    Ajay

I imagine in most instances it would be impossible to work out what it should be related to via logic, it would require a user to read the email to determine what it should be associated with.

To me, this seems like something quite obvious as otherwise you'd end up with orphaned emails?
