Is it possible to set a default environment in BC (same tenant with multiple prod environments)?

Hi everyone,
I hope you’re doing well.

I’m working with two production environments in the same tenant (one per country). When creating users, they appear in both environments. I’ve already configured security groups and assigned each environment to the corresponding country-specific user group.

The issue is that when users log into the system, they still see both environments in the environment selection screen. Is there any way to set a default environment per user (based on their country) so that they don’t have to choose manually?

Even though they can’t actually access the other environment (because access is restricted by the security groups), users find it inconvenient to select the correct one each time. This will become even more problematic soon, as we plan to open 3 additional production environments for other countries. Some users also have access to TEST environments, so the list of available options is getting quite long.

Is there any possibility to configure this so that users are automatically directed to their designated environment, making it work as if they only had access to one?

Thank you very much in advance for your guidance and support!

    Hi,

Thanks for your question! You're absolutely right—managing multiple production environments in the same tenant can become cumbersome for users, especially when the environment list grows.

Currently, Business Central SaaS does not support setting a default environment per user that automatically bypasses the environment selection screen. Even though access is restricted via security groups, users will still see all environments they are technically part of during login.

Here are a few suggestions to improve the experience:

    1. Use Deep Links: Share direct URLs to the correct environment with users. These links can be bookmarked or embedded in internal portals to guide users directly to their designated environment.

    2. Browser Profiles or Shortcuts: Encourage users to create browser shortcuts or profiles for each environment. This helps them quickly access the correct instance without navigating through the selection screen.

    3. Feedback to Microsoft: This is a valid usability concern. Consider submitting this as a feature request via the Business Central Ideas portal—Microsoft actively monitors it for community-driven improvements.

While there's no native way to enforce a default environment per user today, these workarounds can help streamline access.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

     -   This Problem can come when there are 2 Companies in one Environment and on the User Card > Permission Sets Section, there is a Column with the name as "Company". You can select over there and then you can see only that company.
     -   If for the Environment, don't use the Update user Feature on "User List Page".

Hi, Do you mean that these environments will show up in this list below?
It is recommended that you let the client use the URL of the direct environment
Or create custom app launcher tiles for users.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
