How to copy production data to test on-premise

Hi

someone asked me if the following is possible: "Is it possible to copy the production data of an MS Dynamics CRM 2013 instance to the test environment" (same verison)

What they would like is to keep their test environment relativily close to their production system, in terms of data. So is there any procedure or tool to copy data for selected entities or a subset of data from one to another environment?

Thanks in advance

Kim

    Hello,

    If you are on a OnPremise env., you can copy the Production database and rename it.

    Example: MYCRMProduction_MSCRM --> MYCRMdevelopment_MSCRM

    Restaure the second database in SQL

    Launch your CRM Deployment manager and slect your new database.

    You will have two CRM organizations (For Production and Dev.)

    You can run this process each time taht you want to restore your Production on Dev.

    Note : With this method, all the customizations on DEV CRM are erased. If you want to only update the data, you have to use the standard export of CRM // Use the CRM configuration manager // Developp SSIS package

    Indeed, importing a copy of the production database is a possibility. But on PRD, managed solutions are used, so we cannot convert them to unmanaged? Also all configuration entities are copied then...

    Guess we will have to setup a procedure to transport data

    Hello,

    You said that your goal is to etablish a "Test environment".

    I think that's better to keep two managed Organization (Test and PRD) and one unmanaged (Dev)

    You developp on the DEV env., you delivered managed solution on TEST and then on the PRD.
