Report Viewer-view reports in web browser

How do I change the default report viewer to the web browser for users that only have Report Viewer (not Designer)?  I have both installed and I can change the default view under Tools/Options on my computer.  But I installed Report Viewer for one of my budget managers and I want him to view the reports in a web browser, there doesn't seem to be an option on his computer under Tools/options.  thank you!

It is not possible to install only Report Viewer or Report Designer. When you install the MR Client components, you get a copy of both Report Designer and Report Viewer. In Report Designer under Tools -> Options is this option:

"Use Management Reporter Report Viewer as default viewer"

-Check the option to use the Report Viewer client and un-check the option to use the web viewer.

Thank you, I didn't realize Report Designer installed automatically with Report Viewer.  Unfortunately I made sure the "MR Report Viewer as default" box is unchecked on the user's computer and the reports are still opening in MR.  This is true for all of the budget managers who have generator access to a security user group I set up for them.  Could there be another setting for the whole group that is overriding the default viewer?  Or something I need to set up in their browser settings? thank you for your time!

The option is stored per user in the registry so when you were checking the setting on the user's computer, did you log in as the user or as yourself? If you logged in as yourself, you would have only set the option for yourself. Have the user log into the workstation and check the option in MR. You can also view the setting in the registry under the following path:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Dynamics\ManagementReporter\21\Client\UseDesktopReportViewer

To my knowledge, there is nothing that can override this setting.

One other thing to possibly clarify is that when the user generates reports from Report Designer, they should open in the web viewer with the option un-checked. If the user is opening Report Viewer and opening a report from the library, they will display in Report Viewer.

Your final clarification answers my question (although I wish the answer were different!).  When a user opens a report from the Report Viewer library it will display in Report Viewer.  There is not a way to view a report from the library in a browser.  thanks again for your time!

Correct, if you open a report from the Report Viewer, it will display in the Report Viewer. It makes sense to use the Report Viewer if you have it installed because it has more features than the web viewer. If you are looking to create report links that will allow users to open the reports in the web viewer, you can do either of the following:

    1. While viewing a report in the Report Viewer, click the Copy Link button. You can save that link as a shortcut anywhere or you could e-mail it out.

    2. If you want MR to automatically create links like that, open a Report Definition in Report Designer. Under the Output and Distribution tab, fill out a link location to a UNC share that the MR Process Service account has access to. Then, when the report generates, MR will automatically create a link there which users can click on to view the report in the web viewer.
