Can I force Dynamics GP to install under a named instance

I know that if I already have an instance of GP installed on my Workstation that it will ask what I want to call a subsequent installation. However, I want to install GP as a named instance right off the bat, for the first install. Is this possible?

    Yeah I thought I needed to do something like that to sequence it successfully in App-V. We have a need internally to see Dynamics GP in multiple configurations...one with project, one with AA, one with Manufacturing...etc. All of these do different things to GP if they are installed or not so we needed to sequence multiple installs of GP to make this happen.

    You can script out the install but I am curious as to why this needs to be done? You can do this with the information is in step 2 in the following KB:

    947538 Error message when you try to install Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0: ".NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. The installation cannot continue"

    Re: Can I force Dynamics GP to install under a named instance

    So on a test box if I install GP it installs it as the DEFAULT instance. There is a registry entry created under:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Business Solutions\Great Plains\v11.0\1033\DEFAULT

    if I install GP a second time it creates:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Business Solutions\Great Plains\v11.0\1033\{INSTANCE ID}

    where {INSTANCE ID} is Inst01, 02, 03, ...

    I want to force it to install as a named instance the first time. Is it an installer transform? What can I do to force it into this?

    Hi Mike,

    I was also referring to the install of GP as well. All you have to do is change the path during the install which is a named instance.

    Sorry I guess I wasn't clear. I was referring to a named instance install of Dynamics GP not a named instance of SQL Server.

    You sure can. All you have to do is choose a name when you do the installation the first time.
