Script Error when running custom reports

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 660

Hi - I am getting a script error when trying to run some of my custom reports.  The report will work for a while and then suddenly one day it will stop working.  The only way to pull the report is to start from scratch and recreate the report.  Oddly, you can't even create a new report by starting from the existing report that stopped working.  The last three times this stopped working, it appeared to be because an edit was made to the report - added a column or changed the format.  However, that hasn't always been the case.

Details on the error:

Line: 5

Char: 16238

Error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerParserErrorException: The message received from the server could not be parsed.  Common causes for this error are when the response is modified by calls to Response.writer(), response filters, HttpModules, or server trace is enabled.

Any thoughts on how this could be avoided?  It's a huge time suck to have to recreate these reports.

Thanks!

RE: Script Error when running custom reports

    Hi,

These script errors are usually caused by Reporting Services returning an error page rather than the content that was expected.  If nothing has changed on the report rdl, it is unlikely that it is anything to do with the report it's self.

Are you using Online or OnPrem? If you are using onprem, you can look in %programfiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\<SQL Server Instance>\Reporting Services\LogFiles

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

    Hello,

The below blog which describes the same scenario should help you resolve this issue :

    Thanks.
