Phone Call AutoFill 'Call To'

Hey guys,

I have an on-premise version of Dynamics CRM 2015 and when I create a Phone Call Activity (the long way, not by the quick create) the 'Call To' field does not get populated automatically, even though in my Dynamics CRM Online instance, it does. Can anyone provide any explanation for this? Thanks!

--edit--

Alright, there seems to be some confusion; I can create a Phone Call activity from Account, Contact, and Opportunity records in Dynamics CRM Online and the 'Call To' field will auto-populate.

If I create a Phone Call activity from the same entities: Account, Contact, and Opportunity, this 'Call To' field does NOT auto-populate.  What is the difference?

    Hi AEdward,

The 'Call To' field would be auto-populated only for Incoming call, while by default it is Outgoing call.

Outgoing call will have the 'Call With' instead of Call To, and this is also autopopulated by the current user as well.

You need to change the direction to Incoming first

It is either you use long way or quick create, those rules would apply.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Switching Direction to 'Incoming' does populate the 'Call To' field, but that doesn't help my problem.

When the Direction is 'Outgoing', in Dynamics CRM Online, the 'Call To' field gets populated automatically. When I'm in my instance of Dynamics CRM 2015 On Premise, that field does NOT get populated automatically. What is the difference?

Where are you creating the Phone Call activity from?

If you do it from the Account the field will be auto-populated.

If you create it from the Contact record the Call To won't populate, and it just populates the Regarding field instead.

You would normally be able to add an additional mapping between Contact and Phone Call to address this but because of the special nature of Activity Parties, you cannot.

It should be possible to code a defaulted value if Customer Type = Contact (rather than Account).

When I create the Phone Call activity from CRM Online it auto-populates 'Call To' from both Account and Contact, as well as Opportunity. Dynamics On Premise does none of the above.

I'm playing in an on-premise version. of 2015 and getting different results.  What version are you on.

What screens are you creating the phone call activity from?

I'm on standard installation of 2015 On-Premise, no rollup or service pack installed.

    Here's the steps:

In the nav bar I select 'Microsoft Dynamics CRM'

I click on Sales -> then Contacts -> then I select a Contact, we'll say 'Test'

After 'Test' has loaded, at the top of the screen, I select the drop-down arrow next to the name 'Test' in the nav bar -> then Activities

Once in Activities I select the 'Add new Activity' drop-down and select Phone Call.

    Hi A,

On V7.0.0.3543 on-premise it is populating Regarding for contacts and both Regarding and To for Accounts.

In response to your original question - the difference is that the Regarding field will be set to some other record, and only the 'Call To' field set to the Contact lookup.

For Account, the Regarding is the Account and the Call To is the Primary Contact for the Account.

The following fixes are included in V0.1

    *  Phone Call activity created from a contact record does not auto populate the field Call To.

    *  Parent Account is not populated for Phone Call activites if creating the activity from a subgrid on the Account entity Information form.

So it sounds as if you need to apply the Update.  See the following for details:

Howdy, I'm having the same issues. HOWEVER, I have Update 1. This does not auto-fill from the contact view in CRM online either.

I have also tried customizing with auto opening the phone call, I can feed the form most parameters EXCEPT for call to. I think there is something "tricky" about that field that I'm not too sure about. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Agreed, I used a workflow to populate the call to field in the quick phone call when it is created and used the Regarding contact  address 1:phone to update the record.   So for I did not see the process run. It did not run on phone call creation.
