Hi,
Does microsft dynamics crm require an application server to run?
Besides, is IIS server working as web server or as application server for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to run?
Thanks

There are 3 possible versions:
1. On-premise which requires server to run and uses IIS
2. Internet Facing Deployment
3. CRM Online (All in Office 365 cloud)
However if you are using CRM 2011, only option 1 and 2 are available.
Thanks,
Actually, my question for on-premise, is this IIS server considered as an 'application server' or 'web server' for CRM to run?
It is needed on the front end server role for CRM.
Hello csHasan,
Thank you for your query.
IIS server works as a part of Web Server Role is basically situated on the Front End Server Role to access the CRM Organization.
Below is the important documents which will give you details about the Web Server Role in CRM Organization.
