Hello everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. I have a question regarding the development of Outlook add-ins for Business Central.
I am currently working on a project where I need to create an Outlook add-in that interacts with Business Central.
As a basic scenario, I want to create a new record in a custom table called "Bookings" with a "Customer Email" field when I receive an email. The add-in should allow me to click on "New" and then "Create Booking" (similar to New > Sales Order) which will take the sender's email and create a line in the "Bookings" table with the email value.
Here are the steps I have considered so far:
- Create the "Bookings" table in Business Central using AL code.
- Expose the table as a web service using a codeunit.
- Develop the Outlook add-in using the Office JavaScript API and HTML.
- Deploy the add-in using the manifest file.
My question is regarding steps 3 and 4: Is it still necessary to use Node.js or the Office JavaScript API to develop Outlook add-ins for business central and generate the manifest file, or is there a new way to achieve this entirely using AL extensions and web services? I am just trying to confirm if I can stay in the AL universe or if the only way to do it (steps 3 and 4) are still with the above mentioned external tools?
Any insights or guidance from the community would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards
