Business Central On premise Device License

Hi,

How do we use Business Central Device Licensing on the onprem version?

For Business Central SaaS  it says to create a user group in Azure AD and join all users who will use the license to that group.  But i couldn't find any reference to use the device license on On-Premise version.

Thank you

Shiyaz

    Hello,

Issue reported on this thread is now resolved on 16.5 under TFS # 365943 Partner licenses do not grant access for device users.

    support.microsoft.com/.../update-16-5-for-microsoft-dynamics-365-business-central-2020-release-w

Please apply the latest build on a copy of Prod and retest the issue.

    Regards, Horia

Can you log in with the user you setup as Device Only? Perhaps you don't need to populate the Devices list if the device license is subscription based?

I've only worked with device cals.. BC seems to use the device table to count the number of allowed concurrent devices. So I guess with SALs it's no longer required?

    Hi Dan,

Yes the correct license is loaded. the screenshot is from the Export-NAVServerLicenseInformation cmdlet,

i got that license from the Microsoft standard License SKU for Business Central OnPremise Subscription Licensing. Directly from Microsoft.

And now trying to figure out how to use it.

    Thanks

    Shiyaz

    Hi Shiyaz,

Are you sure the correct licence is loaded, maybe the partner licence is installed?

I'm not familiar with that device licence type, so can't say if it's different.

    My implementations have ISV Devices:

    Hi Shiyaz,

Just set the licence type to Device Only User on the User Card, and create a Device record for each device from the Devices list.

For my case (developer) the licence is a file .flf that I import with powershell commands :

    Import-Module 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central\160\Service\NavAdminTool.ps1'

    Import-NAVServerLicense -LicenseFile 'C:\Licence\PRIMUS-SOFT BC 160 xxxxxxx.flf' -ServerInstance $ServerInstanceName

    Restart-NAVServerInstance -ServerInstance $ServerInstanceName
