Problems with trial of CRM 2011 Online (Can't create an account)

Hi Guys,

I have installed a trial version of CRM 2011 for plugin development testing prior to going on a plugin development course for work.

I tried creating a simple plugin as shown at the following link. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg594416.aspx

After registering the plugin and adding the step in the plugin registration tool I always get an error when trying to create an account in the CRM user interface:

Business Process Error: An error occurred. Contact your system administrator or refer to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM SDK troubleshooting guide.

The following Log file is produced.

Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=5.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: An error occurred. </TraceText> </OrganizationServiceFault>

Now after a while of this occurring whatever tutorial I tried. I decided to try removing my plugin and just adding an account at which point I got the same error.

So basically I can't add an account to my trial of CRM...

Any Ideas why I can add an account?

How can I test things if the trial system doesn't work?

Regards,

Iain

check you have rights to create new accounts, ask your system administrator , this is under System - setting - administrations - usres, open your record and check security roles.

I am the system administrator for the system. It is set up using office 365.

I can't see any of those options in my Office 365 panel or my Client CRM interface. However my user is set in office 365 as a Global Administrator and has a Trial Licence assigned.

I have no idea why my user would not be set up to allow account creation as it is the account that was used to install the trial.

right found those options my account is set as system administrator and I checked I have rights to create accounts when I drilled down into the data for my user. So that is not  the problem.

I have now tried creating a new test (creating an activity off an new contact)

Now I get the same error when I try to create a contact. I could create them before trying to add a plugin. I then tried unregistering my plugin which says was successful and now I cant add a new contact....

What the hell is going on here?

It seems like the unregister program doesn't work so now I'm left with plugins that are not working and no way to change them.

Come on Microsoft why is this not working. If I was a client looking to buy CRM software I'd seriously be considering SAP or Infor CLM as so far I have spent over 80 hours trying to get set up to create a simple plugin ...............

Hi Iain, I have not heard of anyone else running into these issues when adding a plugin to CRM Online. What happens if you reregister your plugin? Can you go to Customize the System and make sure the plug steps are disabled for these entities as well?

RE: Problems with trial of CRM 2011 Online (Can't create an account)

    Hi Guys,

I found the problem that was causing this issue. I put in a technical support query with Microsoft CRM support team and together we solved the problem.

It seems that when I first registered the plugin I had verified that I had added the step against the correct event handler in the plugin registration tool. Everything looked correct. So I ran my plugin and got an error. This error was I found later to be a typo in one of the checks to ensure the target entity exists.

So after finding this issue I reregistered the plugin but I didn't check that the step was added to the correct event handler and this is what was causing my issue. It was being added against ActivityFeeds.Plugins.ActivityClose event handler as this is what was defaulting in the register step page.

The first time I registered the plugin when adding the step I must have right clicked the node of the plugin and selected register new step as this correctly defaults the step to the correct event handler in the Register New Step dialog.

The following times it seems I must have right clicked the assembly and selected register new step. This defaults in my case to the ActivityFeeds.Plugins.ActivityClose event handler. I Just assumed it a had correctly added the step to the correct event handler as it posted a message about successfully adding the step and had been correct the first time when I checked.

So my plugin was registered against the wrong event handler and obviously this will not work.

    Cheers

    Iain
