Configuration Migration tool limitation

Hi,

Just wondering what would be the limitation of the Configuration Migration tool  for importing the number of records?

Would it be possible to import the records more than a million? Let me know if anyone have tried more than that amount of records

Thanks!

Hi James, I don't think it will restrict you to import more than a million record but it would take forever. This tool is designed for the importing the config records which are not related to other entity records (which normal doesn't have too many records).

I would suggest to go for excel import as this would be comparatively more quicker. I remember I used this tool to migrate the regions data which was around 5K, it took more than an hour to get all the records in the system :)

    Hope this helps.

The other option is to use kingswaysoft to migrate the data-

    Hi James,

For this amount of records, I would suggest going with SSIS and Kingswaysoft.

It seems you are also working with CRM On-Premise, which will make querying the data that you are looking to import a little easier (if your datasource is OLEDB for example).

    Hope this helps.

Another vote for Kingswaysoft and SSIS.

Also remember you can get their premium tools if using within VS which allows deduping, merging, transforms and all sorts of other wonderful things. I use a mix of excel and SQL but prefer SQL as excel struggles with some field types.

They also have a DTS package that gives an excellent starting point for a CRM to CRM migration.

If you will use built-in tool then you have to divide your file into smaller size and it will take lot of time.

My suggestion: You should use kingswaysoft SSIS Integration Toolkit or Scribe Insight

Personal experience with this is if you try to ship more than about 100k rows it either times out at the pre-processing stage or throws an error. There's obviously a bunch of variables to consider such as entity complexity though. Another decent option if you have an Azure subscription is to use Azure Data Factory. Using a simple 'copy data' activity within my pipeline, I'm getting about 100k rows migrated in 7 minutes. This is a very simple entity however.
