Export to Excel - File Contains Apostrophes (Dynamics 2016 On Prem, Chrome)

Hi all,

I've updated Chrome this morning to 72.0.3626.81 and now when I use Advanced Find in Dynamics 2016 On Premise (8.0.1.79), the XLSX file generated contains an apostrophe at the beginning and end, for example:

'Firm Advanced Find View.xlsx'

The file can be manually renamed and it opens properly, but I can't understand why this happens; I've tried downloading PDF and XLSX files from my email through Chrome and they don't exhibit this problem. Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers,

Chris

    Hi Chris,

I've also been investigating this issue.  I'm opening cases with Chrome and Microsoft.  My findings and workarounds are posted here:

    Hi John,

Many thanks for your words - I'll keep an eye on your page - interesting that it's affecting d365 as well. Just one other thing to note, we have a very new v9 on-premise install as well (9.0.2.3041) and I've just replicated the issue there as well.

    Chris,

Good to know about v9.  If your team tries my work around, just be aware it has only been tested with 8.2.2/8.2.3.  I suspect it is OK on v9, but you'd want to test it at a safe time if you don't have a test/staging environment.

    Best,

    John

It's due to one of recent Chrome72 update . More detail here - community.dynamics.com/.../309399

    We have the same problem

    Hi Jetj25,

Many thanks for your update - in the end I just set my machine to open xlsx' and xml' files with Excel and Notepad++ respectively by using the 'Open With' option in Windows - Excel produces an error message but I found it quicker than renaming the file each time. We'll shortly be moving to v9 on premise - I'll need to test that this has been fixed in the most recent stable build but fingers crossed.

Given your version of CRM I'd propose using the same workaround to associate such files with the relevant application.

    Cheers,

    Chris
