Engineering change management - Engineering Company & Local Company

Hi all,

I am evaluating the exciting new addition to D365 Supply Chain Management. The Engineering Change Management.

MS have recently updated documentation on this feature with lots of information which can be found here.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/engineering-change-management/engineering-scenarios

This states that an engineering company creates a new engineering product and releases it to a local company to transact.

Is this the only way this functionality works?

What happens if there isn't a separate Engineering Organisation, but just a separate department in the local company?

i.e. engineering company and local company are same. How does the release functionality work in this scenario?

Thanks,

Amit

    Hi Amit,

The answer is on another page of the documentation: docs.microsoft.com/.../engineering-org-data-ownership-rules

This ECM scenario will create a released product with the addition that it is controlled and versioned. There is an owner for the engineering product. The release to other local companies is optional. So, you can have it all in the same company. In that case, you will miss the option for releasing and accepting the product.

You can also create a separate legal entity for the engineering department to create and maintain the engineering products.
